Cheryl Pliskin, Owner, is a licensed Marriage
& Family Therapist. Back in 1991, she had
a private practice in counseling. (Contrary
to what you might think, she didn’t grow
up dreaming of becoming a gift basket designer.)
However, counseling was “slow” due
to the economy, so she started a second home
based business to allow her to stay at home
with her two young children.
Jest Notes began with a handcrafted line of
note cards that she sold at juried craft shows
up and down the East Coast. While these shows
taught her children valuable sales skills
and how to make change, this wasn’t
the most lucrative market.
In 2001,
Cheryl changed gears, trading stationery for
gift baskets targeting the corporate market.
What began in 2001 with 8 clients has expanded
to a loyal following of over 400 businesses
that order their gifts from Jest Notes &
Baskets. Cheryl carved out a niche within
the corporate world focusing on client retention,
effective prospecting programs and referral
thank you gifts. Whether via customized logo
ribbon or exclusive designs, Cheryl makes
sure that each of her clients has branded
gift solutions.
In
July 2007 Cheryl expanded significantly into
the center city Philadelphia/suburban area
business community. Distinctive Gifts, a gift
basket company based in Jenkintown, closed
its doors in May. Jest Notes & Baskets
acquired their client list and is proud to
be actively working with those companies now
on their gift needs.
Her
strongest asset is her ability to take a client’s
business problem and design a memorable gift.
Whether a client is having issues finding
prospects, getting past gatekeepers, retaining
clients or fixing mistakes, Cheryl has catchy,
creative solutions.
Anyone who
has attended a business function with Cheryl
is familiar with her “Roses are red”
30 second commercials. She has a tremendous
amount of fun describing what she does! But

Cheryl was
the Area Director of the South Jersey BNI
(Business Networking International) Region
for 4 years prior to founding Synergy Works,
a B2B networking group focused on experienced
business owners. She is on the Board of Directors
for the Tri-County NJAWBO Chapter (New Jersey
Association of Women Business Owners) and
the South Jersey Jewish Business Network.
Cheryl has
been an instructor for 4 consecutive years
at The Basket Connection’s national
gift basket convention. She teaches advanced
business and networking classes for peers
in the industry. Cheryl is a frequent guest
speaker for sales teams and professional groups
on building business via referral based marketing.
Cheryl moved
her business from her home several years ago
into a 1500 square foot showroom and warehouse
space. From a staff of one… herself…
she now employs a staff of 5 year-round and
up to 15 during the holiday season. |
